Wheelset Balancing
Introducing wheel balancing to the world of cycling - NSC partners with Nazca Engineering to bring to Oceania the only technology available in the world to balance bicycle wheels.
For cyclists looking for a notable improvement in comfort, safety, performance and overall speed.
Out of stock note: we´re now in the final stages of having this technology ready to roll out very soon (this will include publishing speed improvement results from testing runs currently being conducted) - if you´re interested please subscribe so we can keep you updated.
What´s wheel balancing?
Wheel balancing refers to the intervention required to correct the imbalance caused by unevenly distributed weight around the entire circumference of the tire and the wheel.
While there are materials (e.g. metal) that have the exact same density everywhere and distribute weight evenly (a spoke), others (e.g. carbon fibre or rubber) don´t. This is due to both the composition and manufacturing process of those materials, and the manufacturing process of products with those materials.
What does this mean for me as a cyclist?
It means your wheels are imbalanced -due to an imbalance in, fundamentally, the rims and the tires.
An imbalanced wheelset causes vibrations that affect comfort and safety, and negatively impact performance (this is particularly obvious when riding downhill at high speeds). These vibrations can also affect the parts of a bike, causing a faster deterioration, impacting safety and your wallet.
Wheel balancing has been around for a long time already within the automotive industry however it has not yet come into play in cycling, until now.

How does NSC balance bicycle wheels?
NSC holds exclusive rights to operate and distribute the technology required to balance wheels designed by Nazca Engineering (only technology available in the market at present)
The equipment, attached to a wheel stand, communicates bluetooth with an app on a mobile phone and provides exact location and "size" (in grams) of the imbalance. By both changing the position of the tire and installing a counterweight load in the rim the imbalance is corrected, getting the imbalance as close to zero grams as possible.
When you change your tires, your wheels will need to be re-balanced. We´re working on expanding this technology to make it available to bike shops so that riders have the option of having their local bike shop balancing their wheels. If you´d like your bike shop to have this tech please let us know.
Cool, so how do I get my wheels balanced?
To provide this service we need to work on your wheelset.
If you´re based in Auckland we can arrange to pick up and drop off your wheels. If you´re based out of Auckland you´ll need to send your wheelset to us.
Price quoted is per wheelset.
Are you a bike shop?
Get in touch if you´d like to access this technology.
All wheels will benefit from balancing.
Imbalance is most notable at high speed, therefore Time Trial, Track and Road cycling are the applications that will benefit the most.
