Apia, Samoa – The 10th edition of the Negative Split Carbon Tour of Samoa concluded on August 24th, 2024, marking a resounding success and solidifying its status as a premier cycling event in the Pacific region.

This year's tour witnessed a surge in participation, with over 50 international riders and a significant contingent of local Samoan cyclists competing across the six-day, nine-stage event. The tour's economic impact on Samoa was substantial, with Sports Agency Tūhono Sports estimating that it generated over (WST) $350,000.00 in revenue through rider accommodation, tourism activities, partner travel, shopping and dining.

A key distinguishing feature of the Tour of Samoa is its commitment to gender equality. While this isn't a novelty for the event itself, it remains a rarity in the global cycling landscape. By having women and men race the exact same route, distance, and schedule, the Tour of Samoa challenges traditional norms and promotes a more inclusive and equitable approach to the sport.

The 2024 edition saw a thrilling competition, with Christoph Friedli emerging as the overall male winner and Lillian Choy claiming the women's title. Their victories showcased the exceptional talent and dedication of the riders participating in the tour.

"The 2024 Negative Split Carbon Tour of Samoa was an extraordinary event, exceeding our expectations in every way," said Seti Afoa, Tour Director and Director of Samoa Events. "The incredible turnout of both international and local riders, coupled with the positive economic impact on Samoa, demonstrates the tour's growing appeal and its contribution to the development of cycling in the Pacific region."

The tour's success can be attributed in part to the tireless efforts of Samoa Cycling, the country's UCI Accredited National Cycling Federation. Through its initiatives to establish cycling clubs and train local riders, Samoa Cycling has played a vital role in nurturing a new generation of talented cyclists.

Visiting tour riders also generously donated thousands of dollars worth of cycling apparel, equipment and spares to the local riders to help with their transition into the sport.

Beyond its competitive aspect, the Tour of Samoa also made a significant contribution to the community. This year, the event raised (WST) $4220.00 for the Samoa Victims Support group, showcasing the tour's commitment to social responsibility.

As the Tour of Samoa continues to evolve and expand, it remains dedicated to providing a world-class cycling experience while fostering economic growth and promoting the beauty and culture of Samoa.
